h i s t o r y The stories of banshees have been passed down through the ages, a frightening tale of sorrow and despair that can fill even the bravest soul with fear. For Blinne Dufaigh, the story is not just that.. but an unfortunate truth and ever constant reality.
There was a time, long, long ago, when her skin was not deathly cold to the touch, when her green eyes were not vacant and abandoned, nor would a horrific screech bellow from the depths of her being to foretell of death and destruction awaiting a person. She had been very human, a friend to many, and both wife and mother to be in the beautiful land of Ireland. Tragedy befell her in the 9th month of her pregnancy as she passed on whilst undergoing a troublesome delivery.
Blinne awoke to find herself floating in a bleary world filled with wandering souls, no recollection of what her life had been. There was no word like Heaven, Hell, or Purgatory in her vocabulary; this place was simply a point of existence in her mind. She has no knowledge of what exactly happens after a person expires, only the ability to communicate with the dead in basic terms of "who are you?" and "what would you like me to deliver?"
Her first time bursting into the world as we know it was both a frightening and incredible experience for her, colors soaring past her vision faster than she could comprehend, seemingly being forced to travel through some kind of gap in order to appear. Any feeling of awe quickly slipped from her whole as sorrow began to fill her, a vision of an elderly man's death forcing her to bear the early news to his loved ones. With dark tears streaming down her ghostly pale and rotting cheeks, her mouth opened to a startlingly wide stance to bellow out her cries of pain and remorse, flying by and around the house of her appointed mission until she appeared in a strange mist, bloody garments draping from her arms and staining her hands as she shrieked his name. Her cries only worsened when the family heard her call until, just as suddenly as her warning appeared, all fell silent. She desired to linger where she was.. unfortunately, she was still beckoned back to the Otherworld by some kind of force even she can't name as she was not yet ready to co-exist with the living just yet.
Over time, she was given the gift to learn how to focus much of her energy into holding a consistent human form and was called upon less and less as she began to master it. In her human silhouette, she has the ability to tap into the powers of telekinesis and flight, which she easily bears as her true specter self, though she has a high risk of undergoing a shift while trying. She is also more susceptible to a transformation if she loses control of her emotions.
Only recently has she been able to focus enough to remain in human form and tap into the surface of the Otherworld to deliver messages those on the other side wish to be sent. There are still occasions where she slips and her less than living side appears to deliver the wailing moans and tidings bestowed upon her.
Blinne had been traveling the world for some time under the same alias she uses now, having had a strange attraction to Irish names. She still can't pinpoint why. Whether it had been coincidence or fate that had brought her to the city of Biloxi in Mississippi just a month ago is up to debate, but none of that concerned her as she took to exploring the local rage at that time.. The Dark Carnival. Being what she was, existence had been lonely... but the acts and various performers themselves made her feel somewhat at ease. After a day of wandering throughout the carnival and soaking up all it had to offer, she sought out where she could join their ranks and happily found her place amongst them.
p e r s o n a l i t y Blinne's personality is a complex one. While her natural tendencies are to be that of a doom and gloom nature, she attempts to keep herself from falling victim to the state. She cracks jokes and is sociable, though she has a tendency to get lost in her own thoughts. She loves to sing and dance, often incorporating both hobbies into her acts for an added theatrical oddity to those who come to her in search of an answer or a message.
In other attempts to distract from the strange aura of sadness that can sometimes radiate off her, she'll dress and act in outlandish manners. While it has a tendency to confuse some, her intentions are in the right place.. usually.
She seems to be quite indifferent about death and finds it almost humorous how much people seem to fear it. However, she feels the utmost sorrow and dread about the end she is bound to first broadcast in her true form. |
